Bethann Hardison to Win CFDA Award for Work Promoting Runway Diversity

jezebel.com: Great news: the amazing and incomparable Bethann Hardison — former supermodel and agency owner, founder of the Balance Diversity campaign and outspoken critic of fashion's abysmal track record when it comes to showcasing diversity — will receive the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) Founder's Award, which is the organization's top honor.

I've seen a lot of articles about the importance of diverse representation in high-profile industries, and it's great to see that this issue is being addressed in the fashion world. Along with Hollywood movies, runway shows and fashion magazines are images that people all over the world view and dream about, especially teenagers. It's important for youth of all backgrounds to see models that look like them on magazine covers and fashion shows because self-esteem and confidence in one's personal appearance can often be heavily linked to what they see around them.
The fashion industry is often (rightfully) criticized for creating body image issues, especially about weight, so it's great to see the CFDA acknowledge so publicly that the runway could use a good shake-up.
