The Clarence Brown Theatre (CBT),
a LORT-D professional theatre at The University of Tennessee which produces an
8-play season, seeks a qualified individual to assume duties as an Assistant
Technical Director/Scene Shop Coordinator. This position is responsible for
overseeing the daily operations of the Scene Shop including maintaining all
equipment, ordering supplies and materials, tracking show and labor budgets,
supervising professional carpenters, hiring temporary over-hire staff, and
conducting safety training for employees and students. This position will
also assist the Technical Director in providing feasibility feedback on designs,
costing-out scenic elements, preparation of working drawings for shop
fabrication, and developing build/install schedules. This position will
supervise load-in and strike for all productions including the installation of
rigging, as required, and may be on-call for productions in order to cover
emergencies and/or occasionally be required to attend technical
rehearsals. Qualified candidates must exhibit a proficiency in scenic
construction, including carpentry, welding/metal working, rigging, and automation;
plastics, basic sewing, and mechanical drafting. Experience in
Computer-Aided Drafting is preferred. Ideal candidates will embody
excellent people management and organizational skills and possess a calm
demeanor while working in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented setting, often
mentoring students.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s
degree or its equivalency and five years of scenery construction with at least
two years in supervisory roles.
Salary: Full-time,
exempt with full benefits
