Play based on Carnegie teen coming to Stage 62

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: When Chris Dimond and Michael Kooman collaborated on a musical for a thesis project at Carnegie Mellon University seven years ago, they had no idea that it would hit the big time. First performed before an audience of four at the school, "Dani Girl," written by Mr. Dimond with music by Mr. Kooman, has since entertained audiences across the United States and in Canada and Australia.

We all know theatre is one of the great engines of human relationships, but there's something special about it when the subject matter strikes really close to home, however literal that may be. If I were bringing a show back to the place where I wrote it, I'd feel like I was finally able to share a piece of my home with everyone and was now bringing it back to rest in its roots. When a show covers a topic that effects people as widely as cancer does, it must be something of an uplifter, because chances are there's alot of people who have been saddened by the subject. It sounds like the writers have done a great job of putting a positive outlook on a grim subject.

I love reading about this show. This is now the second time I have read about this musical, and it makes me so happy to see that it is being brought back to where it started. I agree with Jacquelyn on the thought that the show, covering such a difficult topic as juvenile cancer, must have some heart and happiness in there somewhere. I am hoping that I will be able to catch this production. I'm extremely inspired by these stories, and I would love to meet the CMU alum behind this show.

I love hearing stories like this one. I think it is wonderful how after graduating to see people come back to this place as a base of where they started and present to us. We are truly a family here. We start here and no matter what it seems is if you will return but not as a bad thing but instead as a great thing. You have so much more insight and are here to share. You come to teach and raise the level of knowledge here. It just seems to grown and grown. No matter what I end up doing after being here I think there will be times when I return here ready to help and be a guiding voice and inspiration to other students here (or at least this is what I want to happen. )

I agree with Nathan that I love hearing these kinds of stories. It really is inspirational and makes me look forward to hearing these stories in the future with my classmates. Its kind of unreal in a way to see people we know achieve such great things and makes me want to work harder.
