MediaMation Opens First 4-D Theatre in Colorado
Lighting&Sound America Online - News: "MediaMation, Inc., the Torrance, California show control/A-V company has installed one of its turnkey 4-D EFX Theaters at Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park. The new attraction, which opened in May can accommodate 650 riders per day and is believed to be the first 4-D theatre in Colorado. The project represents one of several collaborations between MediaMation and nWave Pictures, the motion simulator movie producer."

This was a great article in showing some new technology that is going to the public. This is a great technology but only 650 people can see this a day that seems like it is some what low for attraction. Also all of the work they put into this to develop it must have been a ton of work. But I think I have seen some thing like this already I think that Disney’s animal kingdom has some thing like this already. But I might be wrong and I hop that this is some thing that is total different and a lot cooler. I would like to go experience this and see it to see if it is different and see if it is any good. It would be cool if they did an install in the close area to see all about it.
Wow. I wonder what incredible shows are going to be done here. The most important thing they need to keep in mind is to use the 4-D aspects of the theater to the fullest, but not to take away from the show itself. The performance won't be building on past theater performances if it is just a spectacle. This technology needs to enhance the performance.
It will be interesting to see what kind of movies will be shown there. I just hope that the technology doesn't drive the entertainment too much, or try to overwhelm it. It should be a nice balance of technological capabilities and media. I really hope that such technology doesn't get misused in the way that most mainstream 3d films are, with the movie really trying to play up to the technology by having things flying out all the time.
Sorry to burst MediaMation's or Glenwoods' bubbles, but 4D motion simulator productions have been around for a LONG time. Perhaps two of the most recognizable productions of the sort are Disney Parks' "It's Tough to be a Bug!" and Universal's "Terminator 3-D". These productions actually include much more than the Glenwood theatre, such as live actors in Terminator and extra in-seat effects (such as a stinkbug scent spray and small pneumatics that make the seat feel like bugs are crawling under your bottom) in Disney's production. While I applaud this being the first one in CO, it feels like they could be doing more than the leg ticklers and water/air sprays to build on the 4D ventures of the past.
This is aweosme! Technology allowing a 4D experience!
This article is interesting and the comments about how the motion seats come standard with leg ticklers and neck ticklers. Becuase that is standard in every motion simulator no? Having been to disney and theme parks alot, I don't know how much leg ticklers are used, but I can think of a million times when neck ticklers have been used. They provide a great fright and scare when doing the simulattors.
I think it is also worthy to note, that this is the same company, manufactuering the Star Tours 2 3D motion simulator at Hollywood Studios in Disney World.
