Lighting&Sound America Online - News: "The second annual Rock Our World Awards were presented at ESTA's annual dinner last night, the evening before the LDI show. These awards, which recognize groundbreaking achievement by ESTA members in new products, product applications, or projects, were created to acknowledge the genius of both the creator of technology and the designer or integrator who applies the technology in a real world environment."

I really appreciate the award ceremony's acknowledgment of the opening and closing ceremonies of the Bejing Olympics. The work done in those performances was truly incredible. Not just the solid and unique design, but the impeccable timing and management that had to support those events was phenomenal. As I stated in a previous article, I notice that a lot of the awards have been given to companies rather than individuals. I can see why, because it is the collective group of individuals that are creating these phenomenon, not just one or two people.

The fact that the industry does something like this is a pretty awesome idea. Designers, directors, actors, choreographers, and various others are eligible and receive awards for their work, so it's just nice to see that the people who make the technology that helps all this along. The fact that they gave the award to the Beijing Olympics as a whole rather then gave credit to just one person is was a really nice move on their part since I can only imagine that the amounts of gear that went into the opening are nothing short of epic.
