Technical Director

Lookingglass Theatre Company is now accepting resumes for the full-time, year-round position of Technical Director to begin September 1st 2006. Lookingglass Theatre Company specializes in new work told in a boldly visual, metaphoric and physical style.

Responsibilities: Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the pricing, construction, installation, upkeep and strike of all scenic elements and related items of the production season and the reconfiguration of the theatre as necessary. Technical Director is in charge of Facilities management of all areas of the theatre and maintaining a clean and safe scene shop with the help of the full-time Assistant Technical Director.

Qualifications: Undergraduate degree required with a concentration in technical theatre preferred. Either a Master’s degree in Technical Direction or at least 5+ years professional theatre experience required. Must have excellent arena/circus rigging, stage and finish carpentry, metalworking and MIG welding skills. AutoCAD & Excel proficient and Drivers license needed. Superior planning, organizational and communication skills are essential. Must have the ability to effectively lead a team and maintain a positive attitude in times of stress.

Lookingglass is home to a multi-disciplined collective of artists who create original, story-centered theatre through a physical and improvisational rehearsal process centered on ensemble. The Lookingglass Theatre Company maintains offices & rehearsal space on the Northside, a 200 seat reconfigurable black box theatre and a 50 seat studio in Chicago’s landmark Water Tower Water Works on Michigan Avenue, and a newly acquired 5,000sf scene shop just south of the Loop.
