30 Fantastic Movie Costumes by the Legendary Edith Head

The Cut: Costume Designer Edith Head once said "If it's a Paramount film I probably designed it." She doesn't even have to pretend to be humble. Her influence continues — immortalized both as a character in Pixar's The Incredibles, and today, as a Google Doodle tribute in honor of her 116th birthday.

These costumes are incredible! It wasn't until reading this article did I realize the range of costumes that Edith Head designed. What I think made her designs so incredible were that they were simple, practical, and fit well. A lot of the time designers will over do it, but it is really clear that Head thought through her designs. By keeping the practicality of the garments the actress was able to integrate it into their acting. And the fit just shows off how gorgeous these actresses really are.

It is very interesting to go back and look at how people designed costumes for movies back in the older days. I have seen one or two of those movies and i never even thought about how the costumes for those movies were designed. I guess i just figured that they just chose clothes that were of the time. Im not sure why i thought this but i jut never thought of movies having clothing designers separate from the clothing designers at the time. I also find it hilarious that this is who the character in the incredibles was based off of!

This slideshow is so beautiful! I read another article about her from this blog, but it didn't include any photos of work so I'm excited to see her work. The quote from her to start off the article is so funny especially considering she had what some might consider to be "humble" beginnings. Going from stealing a student's sketches to becoming the biggest designer for Paramount is pretty crazy to believe. But looking at her work, she has earned her confident attitude.
