Another Lawsuit Over Costume Copyrights: Gorilla Holding A Cage
Techdirt: "Following our recent story about copyright on Mardis Gras costumes, it seems that now we're hearing more and more about costume copyrights. THREsq points us to the news of a lawsuit involving the maker of those 'gorilla holding a cage' Halloween costumes (pdf) claiming that a competing gorilla-holding-cage costume maker was violating its copyrights"

Copyrighting a halloween costume can open up a lot of debates. How different are costumes from clothing? Clothing copyrights could really complicate the fashion industry, although it would greatly aid high end designers. Another issue with this is the debate about how similar things can be before they violate copyrights, as in this case. Clearly the costume is not a direct copy of the other, but it is definitely similar.
