'Flute' lacked magic on opening night

Pittsburgh Tribune-Review: "The new version of 'The Magic Flute' that opened Saturday night at the Benedum Center is a co-production, the first collaboration of Pittsburgh Opera with Opera Theater of Pittsburgh. Responsibilities were divided, with one company providing the musical performers, the other the dramatic interpretation including costumes and set."

What an unfortunate review.... I heard about the show from two sources - one because Cindy designed the lighting and then from my father who heard they were taking like, a new approach to the opera, so I should go see it (in addition to Cindy's lighting). So I definitely would like to see it. But if it is as terrible as they say, I certainly don't want to pay for it. Unfortunately Cindy forgot to notify us about when the dress rehearsal was, so I couldn't see the performance then. So we'll see. Maybe I will get a chance to see it and critique it myself.

Sad to hear that the performance was lacking, however I am sure that Cindy did a great job with her design, and Sean’s efforts were much appreciated. Operas are quite hard to pull off. Perhaps the director should have seen that he lacked enough talent for this particular production, but this performance could also be cause for tremendous nervousness. Oh well, hope it gets better as the run goes on.
