ControllerPose: Body Tracking From VR Controller Cameras
uploadvr.com: Consumer VR systems today only track the position of your head and hands. No system on the market comes with tracking for your torso or limbs, but some PC VR enthusiasts attach HTC’s Vive Trackers to their hip and feet, a use case supported by software like VRChat and LIV.

Ooooh, this is fascinating. I've actually used the "full-body tracking" mentioned in the beginning of the article that used extra HTC VIVE trackers to attach to your torso and legs, and it works pretty decently! The major problem with it is the amount of setup required as well as the investment (A headset, controllers, tracking stations, and extra trackers will run you around $1000+ when in good supply). Not to mention, if you have a headset in the oculus (or metaverse?) system, you can't really use this. Still though, if you can do it, it's really cool! Seeing your legs actually move with you is an awesome experience, and I've seen some people do really cool stuff with it.
This new tracking technology sounds incredibly promising if it works out though. I've always thought that the main inhibitor to VR innovation is the amount of gear and setup that's required for it. Having to dedicate and entire room and set up trackers isn't an option for everyone, and having to strap a bunch of stuff to your body gets very tedious after a while. This looks pretty seamless however, so if they manage to perfect this design, I look forward to seeing what it can do.
