It's so easy for a writer to talk about the process of writing, and even easier for them to make it out to be far nobler and more poetic than it actually is. I appreciate so much how this article discusses Brunstetter's opinion on other writing, rather than her thoughts on her own process. I think in doing so it gives a much more insightful look at how her mind works, what motivates and inspires her, and what one can expect from her style and storytelling. Just by knowing that she looks to Sarah Ruhl as an idol, I feel I understand her purpose a little more. Rather than droning on about the beautiful, heroic pain that is writing or the dedication it takes, she shows her dedication and knowledge by simply being herself. This alone gives me far greater respect for her than for someone who self-deifies. Any writer who speaks honestly of their writing will say that it is a messy, difficult, confusing, mind-bending, stressful process as much as it is a rewarding one. I feel that if given the chance Brunstetter would say the same. I'd love to hear what she does have to say after seeing or reading one of her play's, and hope that I will find the opportunity to in the near future.
