10 great project management tools for startups

Wamda.com: For a startup, nothing is more important than making sure everyone on the team is on the right track.

As you grow you want to have the ability to manage and monitor your team's collaborative efforts in the most efficient way possible. Fortunately, the internet is full of online project management tools that promise just that. The bad news is that not all of them are designed for startups and some don’t deliver on their promises.

The first thing I noticed about these programs – some of them have weird names. All of these programs have their ups and downs, at least from the brief descriptions given. I haven’t used any types of these programs, but I can certainly see where they would come in handy. I think that any of these programs whether they be startups or not would be best implemented in a startup. Trying to integrate one of these programs into an already established company with established systems seems like a daunting task and one that might be met with people resistant to change. Software like this is great. Many of these programs have a lot of functions and integrate with different types of systems, email clients and servers and file sharing applications. That being said, somebody still has to implement the software, use it, and update the information. All of these software programs, tracking applications and file sharing applications won’t do any good if there isn’t a good leader.

When I first saw this heading I clicked it simply because my eye caught the word “tools.” It only took me a few seconds to realize this article would be about software tools and not tool tools but I was not too disappointed because I realized these are some pretty cool pieces of software. I am curious how customizable they are since so many project managers manage so many different types of things in so many ways. Each software had a brief description of what it handles best and what it is best for but as with most software, it might be hard to find something that does exactly what you want it to. I think that all software that has a really good user interface lacks in customizability. I am sure there are exceptions but I could get really frustrated with software that comes so close to doing what I want it to but is just off the mark.
