Q&A With Star Stage Songwriters Marcy & Zina
www.musicnotes.com: Longtime composing/writing team Marcy Heisler and Zina Goldrich create songs that turn mundane day-to-day occurrences into laugh-out-loud musical events. For example, did you hear the one about the coffee Cassanova? How about the suitor who wooed his sweetheart with Weight Watchers? Have to learned to beware of thespian charmers from charm city?

I'm a firm believer that some of the best work comes out of collaboration. Artists who do it all and are successful (hello Lin-Manuel Miranda) are the exception, not the rule. Normally we find that people who do too much all on their own risk becoming too insular and self-involved, and don't stretch beyond their capabilities because they can only create within the scope and from the experience of their own lives. When working with others, there becomes a wonderful back in forth that allows artists to discuss questionable material, pose questions, gauge reactions, and draw from the double the life experiences, giving the work a better chance at being that much more universal. If you are very, very lucky, you find a collaborative partnership like the one between Marcy and Zina. Both compliment each other's strengths and weaknesses, creating work that could not have existed without the other. In collaboration, that is where the magic happens. Creating work that could only have existed in this precise moment of time, with this precise group of people is the goal of any artistic collaboration.
