News | The Stage: Former National Theatre bosses Nicholas Hytner and Nick Starr have revealed plans for their new venture, which includes the creation of central London's first large-scale theatre in 20 years.

Last year, former NT director Hytner revealed his intentions to form a new commercial production company with Starr, the theatre's former executive director, after they both stepped down from their posts.<

Well this is pretty exciting! I’m very curious to see how well this theater does after it opens, I’m hoping for a great success. It’s quite an intriguing move that this theatre will no be located in the West End. This leads me to question whether they are trying to escape the commercialism of West End or tap into a commercial market outside of the West End district. Nonetheless, the success of this venture could mean the dawn of several other large scale theater’s being built both in London and the U.S. The scale of productions at these new venues could skyrocket, especially with all of the recent advances in stage technology. I did have a hearty chuckle to myself when the article mentioned the modern conveniences of “leg room and facilities.” The one thing I have heard time and time again about theatres is London- the extreme lack of leg space between the rows of seats.
