Feeling a Labor Shortage Crunch? Here's Where to Look
Remodeling | Labor Burden, Education, Training, Workforce, Judy Mozen, NARI: One of the greatest privileges of serving as 2015-2016 NARI president is the opportunity to travel the country, meeting and speaking to NARI members and industry partners. While our conversations differ, many topics and concerns are repeated nearly everywhere I travel. What I hear about from coast to coast, and see in my own hometown of Atlanta, is a severe shortage of skilled workers in the construction industry.

Okay. I get what this article is saying, but it isn't doing the best job. What it's saying is that the remodeling industry is primarily dominated by male employees, and that women should be encouraged to be a part of the industry...but I was totally lost at the statement that women should be told they can excel in the home remodeling industry because, after all, 'it is the home'. Excuse me, but is this article stating that women are an asset because the home is their domain as a women? Am I reading this wrong? If I'm not, this author needs a different perspective. How about, women should be encouraged because currently the workforce in unequal and they should be assured they will be treated the same as their male counterparts in this field. I get that this is a stereotype, but as a woman writing this article, as a part of the home remodeling field she should absolutely be aiming to fight back against that stereotype. It just kills me that a woman is considering hiring women as 'thinking outside the box'. C'mon.
