Rock Lititz cements small town's status as the Hollywood of live entertainment

PennLive.com: On Sept. 20, 52,000 square feet of music gold will officially open in the midstate. Rock Lititz Studio, the soon-to-be largest concert rehearsal venue in the world, will celebrate its grand opening on that September Saturday. It's the first part in the Rock Lititz campus project, a reportedly $100 million endeavor that is set to make Lititz the concert capital of the country. Backed by Lititz companies Clair Global and Tait Towers, the campus will be a one-stop shop for designing and making a show.

Rock Lititz is really smart in choosing a small town to create their base of operations for all the reasons they said. I think a lot of production companies would feel a strong pull to the already big name cities and try to do everything they could to fit their company somewhere in the city. And then they would be stunted because the start-up cost for the size of space they get would be too high, like the article mentions.
Since they're already a big name company in the concert business, I don't think they'll have any trouble making Lititz huge. It's such a cute small town right now, I can't wait to see their history books in a few years when they go from a town of under 10,000 people to the hub of live entertainment.

The premise of Rock Lititz's location is driven by the already abundant amount of resources within spitting distance from the campus. Over the Summer I got to watch this campus grow. The building is less then 5 minutes driving time away from Tait Towers. What this truely means is that when Tait Towers makes a new prototype for a show and that Prototype doesn't fit or doesn't work someone can drive back over and grab the new part and be back before smoke break is over. Before they might have been in New York or in Philly and it would be half a day at the fastest before any replacement part could get there. The truely nice part about the small town atmosphere is that they will be having talent stay in town to rehearse and smaller town like Lititz means that the talent is less likely to be bothered.

As Sean was saying the real benefit of having this venue created in Lititz is money. Since Tait Towers is becoming one of the top names the concert industry and they are providing a large portion of the technical design for the concert it makes sense to tech them in a venue very close to where it's been designed and built. Having the ability to have the entire Tait Towers staff on hand to solve a problem will be extremely beneficial. It's one of the problems with most touring theatrical shows. Most are rehearsed in New York City because most of their actor base is already living their so it makes financial sense to keep them there so that housing isn't a concern. But once you go into tech you go to a venue and everything shows up. Most of the time you'll have one or two representatives from the company that built it but if there are larger issues most of the time you have to punt and figure things out with solutions you have available. By having more solutions available hopefully you'll get a better product. I'll be interested to see Lititz grows over the next few years.

Brilliant. Tait is one of the top companies in the business for this exact reason. Their ingenuity and their foresight. Having the largest rehearsal space for live entertainment on your porch step is a move that will not only benefit Tait and their already vast sums of money, but also the whole live entertainment industry. When the company that is making the biggest, baddest, and most popular shows is right next to the place that is going to be staging and rehearsing these shows, you've got one major recipe for success.

It's so exciting that more and more people are trying to work in a more immersive and 3-D Environment. It's the new frontier of theatre. The choice of a small town is great because it will help the company brand itself, instead of just being another company in a big city, and small towns can always use the employment. Best of luck to them both!
