Paris theatre stage hand dies after accidental explosion before rehearsal
South China Morning Post: One of about 15 people hurt in an accidental explosion during rehearsals for a Paris musical died overnight of a heart attack, police said yesterday.
The man, an employee of the show whose heart had stopped when rescue workers arrived on the scene on Friday evening, died in a Paris hospital, police said.

I thought this article was interesting, but was leaving out a lot of information that just left me wondering. 15 people were injured due to an explosion that caused a wall and part of a ceiling to break. I find this very mysterious and not accidental. How can something just randomly explode and the report not mention it either. It sounds like a serious accident, but there is no mentioning of how the explosion was caused. Further investigation needs to take place to inform the community on how to avoid future accidents. The information that was there was minimal and the article left out the key elements.
So the gentlemen did not die directly because of the explosion but because it scared the crap out of him and his heart could not handle it. Man that is awful that you make it through a explosion, but then because of the effects on your body and the shock of the event you then die.
I do wonder more about the explosion and what else happened. It is good news that is was a accident, in the way that it is good no one was trying to intentionally kill people. Still sad that someone died.
I had accepted this article to have more information in it about the cause of the explosion. It is very sad that someone's life was lost but I wanted to know more about the cause of the accident and what is being done so something like this will not happen again. The article does not even tell you what the explosives were for in the show and how the testing went wrong. I would hope that another article would be put out to fill in all these blanks.
It is terribly unfortunate that someone died from the accident. I wish the article had provide more information. So often in this fast paced, media heavy society we live where information can be spread with the click of a button we focus more on getting the information out fast rather then getting out in-depth, explanatory article. This article for example mentions an explosion but it doesn't go into any details about why there might have been an explosion or what technology was being used in the show that could have produced it. I understand the need to get information out to the public but as soon as new info comes to light, the journalist should be updating the article.
This is a ringing endorsement for having to have ATF certifications to have and or store explosive materials for stage use. If you are storing that amount of explosives that you collapse part of the wall and the ceiling they were not properly stored. Requiring people to be trained and supervised when dealing with dangerous materials and processes is something that we in the entertainment industry are lacking in many cases. Also when dealing with explosives you need to make sure that you have up to date training.
The accident that the article describes is horrible, and it seems like such a highly unlikely occurrence. I wish that the article had given more information about what had happened, but I found this article: http://www.alternet.org/progressive-wire/paris-theatres-technical-chief-dies-after-accidental-blast that provides more of a description about what happened. Some of the comments above mentioned that there were too many gaps in the article, so hopefully this link can help shed some light on those. What happened in that explosion is horrible though, and it's tragic that someone died because of it.
