Newly Republished: “Audio Systems Design And Installation”
Pro Sound Web: The classic reference book “Audio Systems Design and Installation” by long-time AES member Philip Giddings, is back in print due to popular demand, and available exclusively online from the publisher, Post Toronto Books.
Recommended by InfoComm International as a CTS-D exam content resource and by the Rane Pro Audio Reference as “the book on interconnection wiring, grounding, shielding and AC power,” this 600-page pro audio staple has come to be highly valued by sound system designers and installers.

I find it interesting that even now a book is considered the ultimate reference for audio. Copyright issues aside, I wonder that the contents of the book or at least much of that information have not been transcribed on the internet somewhere for easier access, although it does make sense to have everything in one place, even in the form of a book. Also, it's curious that the article did not say anything to the effect of the book being updated -- wouldn't there be new information regarding advances in technology that would need to be addressed?
This book has been on my radar for some time now, and I'm glad to see that it is being republished. To address Adelaide's comment about the information not being up to date, the majority of the information covered in the text regarding AC power and analog audio infrastructure is still relevant today. There are more books that cover more modern technology, but the basics have not changed in the 20 years since this book was published. The audio industry, like the rest of the entertainment industry, steals it's technology from other industries. I am sure there are resources online that could be applied to audio, but there are precious few written specifically with audio in mind.
I have heard of this book but have unfortunately not been able to purchase a copy yet. I currently am in the process of rereading the Yamaha Sound Reinforcement Handbook (which is an absolute necessity for anybody wanting to pursue audio or just interested in learning more about audio technology. As of now this is the most reliable book I have found addressing the field and is currently in it's second edition of production. I also have read a more beginner level book called Sound for Theatre. Which is more theatre based but still offers a good basis of knowledge to get the beginner designer/engineer through the beginning stages of system design.
Interesting discussion here about the book Audio Systems Design and Installation. Here's an offer from the publisher. Go to http://posttoronto.com and use coupon code BF29 at checkout to take $15 off the cover price of $69.95, with our compliments.
