Kanye West Postpones More Tour Dates Due to Damaged Gear

Music News | Rolling Stone: Kanye West has postponed his upcoming tour dates in Vancouver, Denver and Minneapolis, according to a press release. The rapper made the decision after a truck carrying his custom-made video truss and 60-foot circular LED screens got into a collision, damaging the gear beyond repair.

Firstly, I don't know if this article truly belongs on our blog. There must be news more pressing in our world today. It does really suck however that one driver was responsible for the postpone of three tour shows. That driver must feel really bad and he probably got fired too. I do agree with the article that the set is a major component to Kante's tour, so it was a good decision to postpone the tour. Would would be able to watch Kanye for a couple of hours anyway without something cool to look at?

Someone got a great rush order to replace the truss and the LED wall. Postponing the dates has got to be costing them a fortune and the rush order on the truss probably will only cost them one of those dates but the number of dates tells me that the LED wall was hard to rush order and that it probably is being pulled off of another job to get it to them post haste. I would not want to be the tour manager trying to get the logistics figured out to get the LED wall and truss fabricated.

I am with Luke, how would you love to be that project manager and receive the call remember that thing we built well rebuild it. So how long will it take to rebuild, 2 week? Maybe a week? He postponed/ cancelled 4 dates. I bet a shop that is setup to build that rig could do it under 10 days, with a little bit of over time. I mean they did already build it once!

I would not want to be that truck driver right now. Not only did he cause the postponement of shows, there was probably at least a million dollars worth of gear in that truck. Not only was it expensive but also central to the entire show and since it was custom made, not easily replaceable. I agree with everyone that I would not want to be anyone involved with the management and logistics of that tour. I would be curious to know if the driver was at fault in the wreck. But for the entire trailer worth of gear to be damaged beyond repair it must have been a lot more than just a fender bender.

What an expensive mistake. But accidents happen and large touring shows need to be able to be prepared for them. Its part of going on tour, that's why you hopefully have a contingency budget for unforeseen expenses. That being said this is a VERY expensive mistake but there's something to be said for not wanting to show your audience something other than your ultimate vision.

I think they made the right decision to postpone the tour. People are paying to see a full complete show and I don't think they deserve anything less. If the major design components are compromised then in my eyes you have no show. I'm glad that Kanye understands this and doesn't just disregard the importance of putting on a fully developed show. I cant imagine this is not costing Kanye a fortune which makes me really respect his decision to postpone.

It totally sucks that the tour dates ha to be postponed but I actually agree with the Kanye West and the idea that yo do not want to put on a show that is not what you fully intended it to be. Especially when other locations on the tour got the full experience and are paying the same amount of money for the experience. It is really horrible that there was an accident and the equipment was damaged beyond repair. This will be an expense for the tour to have to replace but for the artists and design teams vision to be executed the way they hoped rebuying the equipment is what they have to do.
