This does not surprise me much. It seems like a terrific idea to recognize and honor those in our field who are currently pioneering the technology that will shape the stage in years to come. This makes as much sense as including animated films along with live action ones in the oscars. Just because something is animated or digital rather than carbon-based does not mean that less work or dedication went into the making of it.

I think that this is a very innovative award. Digital theatre is something new and exciting that is developing as we speak. To be completely honest, I'm still not 100% sure what qualifies as digital theatre. However, I think that the BBC is the right sponsor for this award because they themselves are very innovative. My one question though is will this award be open to the whole world or just the UK.
