I think the increase is representative of the increase in the technology of the audio world. Conferences like this are useful for people to lean about new technology and how it's being used. The audio world has definitely a ton in the last decade or so, both as a field and just technologically. The technology has grown especially, because of the advances in computers and technology, as well as the need for it. I would assume the increase comes from the people wanting to learn about the new technology to better use it in their own practices, because I know from experience how complicated some of that equipment can be. It's good to see the field of sound growing at such an immense rate.

As an audio person and a student member in the New York chapter of the Audio Engineering Society I was really looking forward to going to this years AES convention in New York but was unable to due to the amount of homework I had over that weekend. Though this is disappointing, I am glad that they had such a high attendance this year. I also think that this increase in turnout this year had to do with the amazing advances in audio equipment that is being produced these days. With more cool goodies for audio people to play with the amount of people there will obviously increase. After reading this article I am definitely going to talk to some of my friends back home in New York to get the details of how the convention was.
