Rosco Labs to Buy GAM Products Inc.

Stage Directions: In some of the biggest news out of USITT, Rosco Laboratories, Inc. and GAM Products, Inc. announced that they had signed an agreement for Rosco to acquire the assets of Los Angeles-based GAM Products. GAM was founded in 1975 by Joe Tawil, and makes such well-regarded products as GAMColor, GAM Patterns, Blackwrap and the TwinSpin. Rosco will continue to manufacture and distribute GAM's products.

We learned all about these different products in lighting class the other day. I think it is cool that Rosco will continue to sell the GAM products for the loyal GAM customers. I wonder if Rosco will be altering or changing anything about the GAM products. This article makes it seem as if Rosco will leave the GAM products as is, and simply use them to complement the Rosco products. I wonder what sort of customers GAM will be exposed to that they weren't already exposed to beforehand. Did the Rosco and GAM clients really differ that much beforehand? Either way, it seems as if both companies are very happy that Rosco is taking over GAM. It will be interesting to see what Rosco does with GAM (if anything at all) in the coming years.

From what I've heard, this wasn't some kind of competitive corporate buyout. The owners of the two companies were longtime friends, and when the owner of GAM decided it was time to retire, he thought his brand would be in safe hands under the management of Rosco. So naturally it makes sense that the GAM line of products is being continued. I wonder whether or not anything new will be released under the GAM name, now that Rosco is in control of the company. Also, I wonder if current Rosco dealers will gain access to GAM products, and vice versa.

This is particularly interesting news to read becuase I am currently taking lighting class as my mini and Todd told us about this situation. I do not exactly know what led Rosco buy Gam company, but I think it will be very important to let Gam customers to be able to buy same products even after the purchase because otherwise, it will be hard for them to follow up with the changes. However, I can see that the Rosco company will keep that promise, so I hope it won't cause any confusion to them. I agree with Dan if Gam will come up with new products after this or not, but i really hope that these two most influential lighting companies collaborate together to create innovative products.

This is pretty interesting. Its really great that it was more of a friendly handoff of GAM than a brutal rivalry thing. It will be interesting to see how this effects the lighting world, or if it even effects it at all. There are already so few major lighting product companies that I hope they keep their promise to keep the GAM products around under the original name. But I am sure there are some products that Rosco and GAM sell that are practically identical and it doesnt seem like it would make sense to manufacture both so I guess we will just have to wait and see how they handle everything. This seems like an extremely large undertaking for rosco, to be basically running two companies now and trying to keep them from merging into one.

I wonder how this will change things. I can see how Rosco would benefit from leaving the GAM catalog intact but at the same time its an opportunity for them to absorb an entire companies catalog into their own. I imagine it will be a combination of the 2 especially considering that this is a friendly buy out and not a takeover. If it was a takeover I would assume Rosco was trying to remove the competition. If they just leave the company as is I wonder how much bigger rosco will be able to go with the extra income. This will be cool to see.

The article sounds like this will be a very postive thing and the world will be such a better place now that these two companies will be together. Which is great I love it and I am happy that they are so happy about this merger together. I do have to admit, I can of wonder about why not leave GAM to the next guy in line at GAM. Why sell it? Probably because Joe gets a awesome check from the sell of his company and well I do not blame him for that. How GAM will be integrated into Rosco does interest me, will it be it's own entity or will it be slowly brought into to Rosco. Well only time can tell and I do truly with the best to GAM products.
