I think the biggest thing they failed to mention was the range of colors without gels. This cuts labor dramatically because gels don't need to be cut and thus saves time and space isn't needed to hold the gels. I wonder how this will affect the gel companies? Additionally LEDs won't burn out if one dies. If a light dies on presently used lights that light is completely gone. LEDs are able to still produce light regardless if one LED dies.

So I think LED's are great and will be a very good investment for theatre to look into. I do feel that investing in a large amounts LED for a theatre space may be more practical for renovating and new spaces. This is because of dimming rack and all aspects of control within that realm. Just having to run a DMX or arcnet port to a front of house position and then just running a few power plugs will be TONS cheaper then running all the infrastructure for traditional lighting instruments. But I do feel the power savings, gel savings, and labor saving that LED's are predicted to have will convert the world to LED's. I know some of these aspect have been proven but I feel a like more time in the industry is important to empirically prove what is going on.

I'm really glad to be starting out in the theatre world right as LED fixtures become popular. The advantages of LEDs are so wonderful and useful to the world of theatre. The low heat and power needs of LEDs mean that the end fixture that we need to carry up to the cat walks can be much smaller and lighter. The color changing effects of LEDs can make really powerful looks on stage and it's great that LED fixtures work with DMX already. Another great thing about the LED revolution that the article talks about is the fact that low and high end users are able to use different types of LED fixtures.
