Philanthropist Bob Malone saves Priscilla Beach Theatre
News - Carver, MA - Wicked Local Carver: This story began with a knock on Geronimo Sands’ door back in 1976. Bobby Malone, a 13-year-old actor and stagehand at Priscilla Beach Theatre, poked his head into the room and asked Sands if he wanted anything at Emerson’s, the convenience store around the corner. A smoker at the time, Sands handed Malone a buck and asked him to pick him up a pack of cigarettes. And as Malone breezed out, Sands stared after him for a moment, wondering if Bobby Malone was somehow significant to his future.

What a heartwarming story. Usually I avoid commenting on the heartwarming stories because all I can think of are mean, cynical things. But this is actually a pretty good one. I think the single most important thing that theater can create is sense of community, and this is a great example of that. Beyond the whole giving back thing, this is a great opportunity for a sinking theater company to strive to thrive once again, which I guess will in turn foster a greater sense of community and maintain the relationship between the theater and its audiences as well as contributors.
