New York's Living Theater Drops Its Curtains

NPR: The Living Theatre was the oldest running experimental theater company in the United States. Founded in 1947, it gained fame for breaking down the fourth wall between actors and the audience. But the ensemble has been forced to shutter its Manhattan performance space. Its director has moved into an assisted living residence. Still, she vows that the show will go on. Jon Kalish reports from New York.

It's sad to hear that this theatre space is closing. This is the place where we performed Behind the Badge for FringeNYC last summer for 2 weeks and had a blast performing in that space. You could tell the space was a little old, but cozy and lived in. It's in the basement of the building without any windows and it had its cinderblock walls and cement floor painted black, but the energy in the room was vibrant and you could feel that there was ground-breaking theatre that happened in there. That theatre created memories for me that I'll never forget.
