Incandescent Profile vs. LED Profile
theatreface.com:Alright! Incandescent Profile vs. LED Profile. Richard Cadena and Hideaki Tsutsui. Steve Shelley will be MC'ing.
We will turn on a pair of ellipsoidals. One is tungsten ETC Source 4, one is LED Profile. We will conduct three tests. Dimming test: Pop on and pop off. Then fade up quickly, then fade down quickly. Then fade up and down slowly. Then four colors, then a gobo.
Then the three of them will vote on which is LED and which isn't. Once we've identified a fixture, the manufacturer will provide more info on the fixture.

First of all i love the typo in the first paragraph. But about the article; It was really obvious, the difference between the two units, which seemed to be the point of the demonstration. Seeing these units in action at CMU is really cool, I'm glad we just bought 52 more! I was on the lighting console in the Chosky making color palettes for the intelligent units and I found that the LEDs were really easy to work with, seeing as the colors were really strong, as opposed to the scrollers in the other S4s.
More of more of this type of demonstration will be going on in the near future all over the world. Because many people need to see the difference, understand the difference, and be taught how to compensate for the difference the old and the new. Many of times I could not tell the difference and other times I could. I do feel the advantage at some level is to not be able to see any difference. This helping in the peaceful transition of power to the LED.
The biggest thing currently is to have cost come down for the LED instruments.
I saw a demonstration by ETC at last years USITT that was very similar to this. For lighting manufacturers its all about trying to reproduce all of the things people like about incandescent fixtures and trying to replicate that in LED fixtures. It seems that they are getting closer and closer to achieving that while also adding in new features that people find very convenient like color changing.
