Why stagehands at Metallica's Grand Rapids concert won't be wearing black

Grand Rapids Entertainment - - MLive.com: "Not surprisingly, black is the T-shirt color of choice at most Metallica shows.
But pink will rule at Monday night's heavy metal concert at Van Andel Arena, with stagehands and riggers from West Michigan's stagehands union planning to don pink shirts as part of a breast cancer awareness campaign."

I think it's great that the stage hands are trying to raise awareness of breast cancer. It's so important that everyone does what they can to make sure that they are normally screened. I also think that it's great that the stage hands are putting aside their normal wear to support a truly important cause. I think it's really important for big names to support important causes because so many people listen to what they have to say.

That's so great that the stagehands want to raise awareness for breast cancer. Having a change in clothing must be great for the stagehands, plus it is for a good cause. I hope everyone rocks the pink!

This is amazing that they are going to where pink for the show. It is a great thing to support and make an awareness for. But I also feel that people should help other cancers just as much out breast cancer is just a drop in the bucket and we should support all cancers and finding a cure for all of them. But don’t take me wrong this is great that they are doing this and making every one aware that we need to support this and find a cure to this. This is great thing that stage hands are doing for people. I would do it if i was working the show.

I think raising awareness is a great idea and this is a good way to reach a large community.

However, I wonder how Metallica feels about it? It will change the visual aesthetic of a part of their show. It will also appear that Metallica is making the statement. I am sure they know about it, but does a preforming artist or producer have any say over what union members wear to work?

I love that the stage hands are doing this for breast cancer! Not only are they making a statement about supporting breast cancer research and awareness, but a statement to the Metallica fans! It's ok to wear pink! Go fans! I hope that the radical difference in the color of these shirts draws even more attention to the cause!

This makes me kind of angry, actually. Weeks after Metallica came out in favor of their music being used to torture inmates in Guantanamo Bay, they dress all their stage hands in pink for breast cancer awareness? Really? It seems like a publicity stunt for the huge amount of negative attention the band received for their insensitivity. Even so, it's still a foundation that is primarily American: is Metallica really that nationalist? I don't know, but I don't like this kind of double standard.

It's great that the stagehands are raising awareness for breast cancer. I do wonder whether the dress of the runcrew will affect the look of the performance, but considering how the campaign is also trying to get the audience involved, I doubt it will be a problem.
