The Tartan Online: "Over homecoming weekend, Carnegie Mellon’s independent student theater organization, Scotch’n’Soda, debuted their performance of The Mystery of Edwin Drood."
I didn't get the chance during Halloween weekend to see the Scotch'N'Soda production, but I am impressed by their dedication to put up Edwin Drood. It's an incredibly difficult show to pull off well, considering the fact that each of the 8 leads has 10 different endings to memorize, including 3 songs each, which they may or may not actually end up performing at all. Additionally, the humor is sophisticated and tongue-in-cheek; I've performed in one production and seen several where the jokes simply did not land because many went right over the heads of a teen to young adult audience. I'm also impressed, however, that first-year students were being chosen to play several lead roles. I know the casting was on who fit the roles best, but it's encouraging to think that S'n'S is willing to shoulder the risk of putting an unknown performer right up into the most challenging roles in the show.
