This shows that in the past year New York just was not the pre-eminent place for theatre. Many of the most successful shows that opened in the past season were found in other cities across the country, while New York gave us many critically panned productions. I think it will be interesting come time for the Tony nominations to see if they can hold a candle to lists of nominees such as this. We may be gearing up for one of the most unexciting years for those awards we've seen yet.
