Internship - Outreach

SPRING 2008
Workshop Leaders
Take Back the Hill

The Center for the Arts in Society at Carnegie Mellon is seeking three interns/workshop leaders for a youth outreach program at the Hill House in the Hill District, a predominantly African-American neighborhood in Pittsburgh. The program offers Hill teens an opportunity to explore a current topic and to create a ’zine in response to it.

As mentors, consultants, critics, and readers, the interns lead the middle school students through experiences that will give them ideas for creative expression. Center faculty and staff will serve as advisors to and resources for workshop leaders on the project.

The participants meet once a week at the Blakey Building in the Hill District. The workshops cover creative expression through writing, collage, design, and other elements of putting together a teen ‘zine. Interns will be working with other workshop leaders for the Carnegie Science Center’s Mission Discovery.
