Using Your Craft to Relax
Freelance Switch: "There’s also the problem with turning a passion into a profession: it gets harder to enjoy your hobby unless there’s money in it for you. I don’t know if this happens to anyone else but lately my motivation to do pretty much anything has been limited unless someone’s dangling a cheque in front of me."

This actually sounds rather healthy and common as I've known that to work for me whenever I feel like I lack the motivation at times. Letting you mind wander to explore what you want feels better because it takes out the restraints.
I believe that at Carnegie Mellon University college of Fine Arts, they have a special week called playground? (I can't remember this very well) I believe this is where the students sort of get to create whatever they want within a few limits. So I imagine that it must be fun in some way for these students to design, draw, or do whatever without the restraints of class requirements.
So, in essence, I feel that this idea is truly a common and successful practice to keep the passion and motivation going after a period of time that makes it feel mundane.
