New Standard for Getting In

Inside Higher Ed: "With criticism growing that standardized tests and grades fail to convey the full picture of applicants, the Educational Testing Service is preparing a standardized way for graduate schools to consider students’ non-cognitive strengths and weaknesses."

The idea of supplementing or replacing a standard letter of recommendation with a quantifiable evaluation doesn't solve any of the problems that the letter of recommendation itself presents. This new presents the same subjectivity in the old system, and makes it that much easier for a professor to put no effort or thought into the response.
