I don't think that this is necessarily an uncommon thing to see as I seem to recall hearing at least once or twice a year of entertainment industry having some form of tension with potential threats of strikes or lockouts. What concerns me is the differences that this article has from other incidents I've heard about. If what they are reporting is accurate, than agreements may be very hard to find as neither side of this matter appears very willing to give enough to make the other side happy. Without such crucial agreements, I imagine that Broadway could suffer economic complications that will, in turn, may be passed on to the customer. (cost or quality of performance)
I am partially sympathetic to both sides of the argument as the workers are upset that they apparently don't see the producers and other higher ups taking concessions. However, the producers have to walk a tightrope to find the right solution that will keep the budgets balanced and the company successful.
