Actors Injured During Technical Rehearsal of London Joseph Revival
Playbill News: "Two members of the supporting cast in the forthcoming London revival of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat had their toes crushed by part of the moving set."
The dangers of machinery. It seems to me that the incremental cost for adding a force-feedback system to one of these systems should be negligible for large, commercial shows like this. Once the hydraulic pistons start moving, pressure should remain constant, if the hydraulic pressure near the piston increases, the moving piece has encountered more resistance (like some guy's leg) and the system could stop until a human confirms that it isn't hurting anyone. I can't imagine that pressure sensor and interlock costing more than a few hundred dollars per set, and I can imagine the astronomical medical/lawsuit costs for hurting an actor. Perhaps I'm crazy, or perhaps commercial theaters want every bit of profit they can find.
