End of Q1 Results for Broadway's 2016-17 Season.

The Producer's Perspective: The first sign that summer is sliding into the sunset is when the books close on the first quarter of the Broadway season. And they did just that this past Sunday.

Hard to believe that 13 weeks have flown by as fast as they did. Seems like just yesterday we were wondering who was going to win Best Musical at the Tony Awards.

After spending some time in New York City and having the opportunity to see more Broadway shows regularly it is exciting to read about a positive statistic that you are a part of! This summer felt as though the list of Broadway shows that I wanted to see kept growing. After reading this article I now realize that my list kept growing because more shows opened! This summer for theatre was interesting, and with technology and phone applications becoming more prevalent I can understand why gross sales went down. Apps like Todaytix and even TKTS sell tickets to Broadway shows at discounted prices. Thought the Box office seems like the most legitimate way to purchase a ticket, I learned that legitimacy comes with a hefty price tag, and therefore, I resorted to purchasing tickets off of other sites, apps, and lotteries. The dip in gross sales in the Broadway community, I think displays perfectly supply and demand. More theatre has opened and is running! Exciting. However, this means that people are less likely to see all the shows, and therefore, theaters lose money. If there were less shows running on Broadway at one time, people would most likely see more of the shows, filling seats and therefore, bring in more profits. It is a sticky situation because on one end we love seeing more theatre but on the other people have to make money. Or people could just see more theatre!!
