Local Theatres Face Off in a Super Bowl-Inspired Competition

AMERICAN THEATRE: The Carolina Panthers might be going head-to-head with the Denver Broncos on Sunday in Super Bowl 50, but several hometown theatres are taking the competition from the football field to the stage.

This sounds like some fun friendly competition. I initially thought the theatres would be in competition somehow, but I wasn’t sure how that would work. You wouldn’t normally expect to see “theatre geeks” engaging in making bets on a sports competition, so that is sort of fun plot twist in this contest, changing up the subject matter that these theatre staffs are used to. I like the idea of theatres from across the nation engaging with each other, even if it is something silly like this. I think the requirement that the losing theatre must incorporate the winning theatre’s logo into an upcoming scenic design is a very creative idea and I’d be interested to see how that works out. The last bit about the Vortex in Austin is what I find most interesting. The contrast between the Super Bowl and fairies is fun, and I like that they are hosting competitions in real time. It’s a cool twist on the usual superbowl party.
