Let it rip! When fart jokes were comedy’s last taboo

Salon.com: Like movies, jokes exist at different levels of naughtiness, and till recently those levels were surprisingly distinct and well defined—something I realized in researching this guide, as I noticed that certain funny things never appear at all in certain media. Farting is a good example: an innocuous phenomenon with no obvious reason for being tabooed (unlike masturbation, anal sex, or suicide, whose suppression was more comprehensible) but one that for most of the last century was conspicuously absent from mainstream American humor.

That is quite strange that farting is just something that never was ok as a joke. Just a very strange strange world we live in. Thinking about farting, I do not know off hand how many jokes were made about it in shows like Family Guy, Simpsons, or South Park. Just something I never really thought about, ever. Well maybe I should do my own research, type farting into Youtube and be prepared.
Ok so farting big deal, this dude they talked about who could launch water out of his rear is kind of a disturbing sight to see. I am not sure how I feel and not sure if I would want to see it. That is something that you can not unsee what you have seen it. Beware be very aware.

Launching something out of your butt is something completely different from fart jokes! That is just disturbing and not funny (I guess unless you're the kind of person who likes that, in which case, be my guest, just don't invite me). Fart jokes, on the other hand, are almost always funny! This summer at work, we would make fart jokes all the time, even my boss, a man in his late 40s made fart jokes. They're just something that people find amusing. I don't really know why, but many people find body functions hilarious. Whether it's farting, a funny sounding sneeze, pooping your pants, anything! there wouldn't be such a multitude of such jokes made unless people found them funny.

I really think one o f the reasons fart jokes come and go is their maturity level. Its one thing laugh out at them as a child, but a an adult in a public setting its a different thing. This isn't to say that adults don't find them funny, even I smile at on form time to time. Its just that social stigma has determined that they are inappropriate and immature. People may say that they don't care what standards dictate, but they do, else they wouldn't bathe or wear clothes. So the humor is allowed in an public setting. But that's not to say it isn't anywhere! Go to any comedy club I'll bet the comedian will make at least one fart joke in their set. Fart jokes still exist people, the media just refuse to acknowledge them.
