Purpose Built: Designing A Flexible System Template

Pro Sound Web: It might seem pretty straightforward to put together a sound design for a national chain of entertainment venues.
After all, the term “chain” conjures up a cookie-cutter, assembly line process where one size first all. So get the first system figured out, put it in place, make some adjustments, and it’s good to go…right?

This article is cool because it is a part of the industry that I am not really familiar with. The combination of live concert sound with a restaurant/ bar setting is quite interesting. It is neat to see how some of these challenges that he is facing are somewhat unique to the setting that he is in. For example, in most performance settings there is not a huge guitar shaped bar in the middle of the room impeding your sound. Also, in most places, at least where big name acts are playing, the ceiling is not as low as your typical restaurant. I can see how these difficulties, and many others could cause serious issues within the space sonically.
