Letters | Stage | The Guardian: I am writing to you as the president of the Association of Lighting Designers, and as the Founder of Theatre Projects, an international theatre design company that for 60 years has been at the forefront of British theatre technology, responsible for the stage design of the National Theatre, and for over 1,500 theatre projects in 80 counties.

This is sad news to hear. Theatre essentially started in Britain as that is where the popularity of it grew in its modern context and many great plays and other devised works have come from. They also exist a fairly large entertainment industry that not only serves for British people but for the world. I’m sure the economy will quickly see major issues and especially so after Brexit happened just nearly two years ago and is being finalized this coming year. Their economy is going to se a very unfortunate reversal. Having been an amazing economy they have lost a lot with Brexit already and now this. This also limits the amount of productions that want to come in in two ways. Simply making England undesirable for entertainment and business. I hope this exemption does occur because if not then my dream of working in Britain and the U.K. one day will probably have to die but it is in the name of better environment practices. SO at least it is for a good cause. The only question though, is: Is it worth shutting down entertainment for say even just a few years or to let it slide and work on a plan to get them there, just at a later date?
