It is always cool to see your school being talked about in an article, especially when that article wasn’t written by the school. This is even cooler when the article is specifically about your department. Do I know any of these people? No. Do I feel a special connection? Maybe a little if anything. But either way, the public recognition is exciting and cool. I know I will never be on this list, unless my life take a major turn (anything is possible) but I still feel pride to have the same background as these industry leaders. Sure, my reward isn’t a Tony, but if I can reach the same level in my field that these people reached in their field, I will be quite pleased. We all come from the same school and even though professors change, the school and program stays the same. I am proud to be a CMU Drama student (alumni soon) and I will wear this school as a badge of honor.

And that is my last comment...

I completely agree with Drew. I appreciate the hype that the School of Drama creates about the School of Drama, but it is always nice to have an unaffiliated source bestow that recognition as well. Since I committed to this school, watching the Tony Awards has been a thrill, knowing that this school has such a close and important connection to arguably the largest awards for theatre. I like knowing that having this school on my resume is going to help me make connections in the industry far into the future, even if those connections do not ultimately result in a Tony Award. Honestly, the alumni network was one of the selling points for my parents for this school. They were definitely worried that I was going to end up in a low paying job that had nothing to do with my degree, but knowing how many connections simply going to this school gives you, they were immensely reassured.

I could not be prouder of my school nor so honored to know that one day I too will help carry the torch of CMU. Every time I see one of these article or here these stories about our alum I feel more connected, more knowledgeable about the industry and how it works. It is going to be so incredible in a few years when I start to see the names of actors and eventually other DP’s that I know in one of these articles. You know a lot of the students in the school of drama what to do things outside the the box of traditional theatre, but for me working on a new york Broadway stage looks closer and closer everyday, and its this affiliation with the Tonys that lights my way. (no pun intended) I will be watching close this year and rooting for our alumni with such pride.

Its always an awesome feeling reading these kinds of articles. What’s really great is articles like these are usually written by our school. However this one was written by a private company which makes it even better. Our school has always produced people who are worthy of tony awards but this year makes the point even clearer. We got 12 nominations! I wonder what school has as many tony noms as we do. Another great thing about this article was that each person had a little something written about them. Usually the performing nomations will get more attention but in this article it seemed everyone got the same acknlodgement. Its really exciting seeing Jules and Peggy get lot of nominations. Also I did not know of Jamie deRoy before this but as soon as I saw she was an alumni I looked her up. She is a great producer and I hope to work with her one day.

It's great to see Carnegie Mellon and more specfically the school of drama being recognized in such powerful ways. It's great to see the school being recognized by one of the most respected and coveted names in the industry that we are all striving to be apart of. Its also great to see the diverse group of people that we send that get recognized and the power of the school as a whole. It's not like its one odd year or a couple of good people. But it's every year a lot of different artists from all different departments getting recognized for their fantastic work, It's a great thing to look up to as a student at the school as this is what graduates are doing and this is the bar that you should not only hold your self to but try and reach above. it is quite an inspiring idea.
