Google Glass resurrected as a tool for hands-on workers

www.dezeen.com: Following a two-year hiatus, the Google Glass augmented-reality headset has made a comeback, and is being targeted exclusively at businesses.

Google suspended sales of Glass at the start of 2015 in order to rethink its development.

But yesterday, the team behind the wearable made an announcement on Medium that after a two-year testing period, the headset – now named Glass Enterprise Edition – is being made available to all businesses.

I find this article rather bland. I was initially really excited to see what Google came up with as a rebranding of their Google Glass, an idea that was forgotten about, this can be a very big step for the A.R. industry and if Google gets this right than we have a very high chance of seeing A.R. more and more. This article starts out really strong and talks about how we could see this for designers and people who do very hands on work, but by the end of the article the author says that we don't know when it will be released, the base cost, or any of the new features that it has. The only thing we know for sure is that its being aimed towards businesses and that there is a new battery that is lighter and more comfortable. I think that the idea behind this is very strong, but implementation will be very very difficult and Google has already failed once. Google will need to find a way to make this product affordable or atleast affordable enough that the cost to benefit ratio is significant enough that companies will want to buy this product. I think that if Google can not release this product by the end of 2019, than they will be out of the A.R. industry. Apple is working on an A.R. product and has said that with the release of IOS 11 that all iPhones will be A.R. compatible and with the Halolens, Windows is currently in the industry and is gaining more and more of a lead on Google.
