Walt Disney World's Cirque du Soleil show to close this year

www.themeparkinsider.com: You've got until the end of the year to see La Nouba at the Walt Disney World Resort. The Cirque du Soleil show, which plays in a dedicated theater in the Disney Springs dining and entertainment district at the resort, will close a 19-year run on Dec. 31, 2017.

I saw that show when I visited Disneyworld a couple years ago. It was the first time I had seen a Cirque show and I absolutely loved it. A few months later, a different Cirque show, I can’t remember the name, came to my area. It was good, but just not as cool. There are so many more options in a dedicated theatre than when the set has to go on tour. I get that the show has been around for a while, so I can understand why they are closing it, but I really hope that another will take its place. I remember thinking that the theatre worked well for all the different acts: wide aisles for the clown to walk and interact with the audience, thrust stage worked for the bike tricks, and these 2 towers for the acrobats and spot opts, which also added to the industrial world scenic design. And there was a really amazing bird costume that was the central character.

It’s amazing that Cirque du Soleil’s Disney show has lasted as long as it has. After 19 years it does seem natural that a change might happen. Disney and Cirque have new shows and attractions that have been improved on throughout the years and I’m interested to hear what's next. It’s amazing to see how many residency shows cirque has gathered in the path 19 years. Now not only do they have locations in Vegas but in Mexico, on Broadway, Dubai and China.
I wonder if Cirque will bring in another one of their residency shows or if they are creating a new show with Disney. What might be interesting is if it was a traveling theater for Cirque and there bring in different traveling shows or a show that changes regularly. However, this might not be practical because how often people go to Disney and how much work it takes to put on a Cirque Show.

Although I have never seen this Cirque du Soleil show at Disney before, (and I’m not sure if I will get an opportunity to see it before the end of the year, which sucks), I think that now is the perfect opportunity to create and open a new show for Disney. For example, all the kids who would have seen at a young age are now of legal adult age or in the later years of high school. They have grown up in an interesting time where there has been a growth of social progress and technology continues to reach new levels. Not saying that the show has to have an ulterior motive or message, but this is a chance to display some simple diversity and use the awesome technology that Cirque is already using and to experiment with newer ones. What I mean by simple diversity is just in how you represent actors and relationships people, it doesn’t have to scream “OH LOOK! I’M A PERSON OF DIVERSE BACKGROUND”, but rather something subtle would be a nice add.
