Show the World the Power of Women’s Creativity!
WomenArts: As usual at this time of year, the WomenArts staff is blown away by the talent and diversity of the women artists who are posting their events on our Support Women Artists Now Day/SWAN Day Calendar. We write and talk all the time about women artists being under-represented in the mainstream media, but there is nothing quite like the SWAN Day Calendar to show people how much they are missing!

I have to say, I didn’t even know that Support Women Artists Now day existed until today. But I’m pleasantly surprised by the line-up that this calendar has created. While I do think every day should be a support women artists day, this calendar bring special attention to events that might have gone previously unrecognized. The calendar of events looks really promising, including events from all across the world. It also turned out to be very inclusive, featuring events specifically produced by women of color. I think one of the biggest setbacks for women in the artistic industries is a lack of support, not just by fellow professionals, but by audiences. Sexist opinions from the industry matter less and less if we can prove there is an audience for women’s work. Because no one can really say anything is you’re making money or if your show is successful. It’s not ideal, but it’s a first step. Everyone go out and support women artists!
