Questlove and Lin-Manuel Miranda Give Details of The Hamilton Mixtape

Vanity Fair: “I really wanted the hip-hop community to embrace Hamilton because it’s such a love letter to them,” says Lin-Manuel Miranda about the biggest and most original hit musical on Broadway in decades. The Tony Award-winning Miranda wrote the book, music, and lyrics, and stars in the hip-hop musical about Founding Father Alexander Hamilton.

I am very excited about the Hamilton Mixtape because it is integrating Broadway even more into the hip-hop world. I think it is interesting that Lin Manuel Miranda is not going to be on the mixtape at all because he wants it to be about all the other artists. The mixtape is going to be covers of the songs as well as new songs written by other artists that are based off of songs from Hamilton. It is bringing together many different kinds of singers. It will be very exciting to see the different interpretations of the covers of the Hamilton songs. We The Kings already did a cover of The Story of Tonight, which is very exciting to hear on the radio on pop stations. This is bringing Broadway music more into the public eye and integrating it with other genres of music that are generally more popular to the public. Hamilton is changing the way people view Broadway and bringing in different types of fans.

I just started listening to “Hamilton” not that long ago and I have been completely roped in. I don’t know if I’m ready for another album but I think I could take it. This mixtape would be so cool to hear after listening to the album. Recently this week, I was reading an article on Rolling Stone about 10 things that would need to happen in order for “Hamilton” to be turned into a movie-musical. The incredible thing about “Hamilton” although it is innovative as a musical, is also just simply how quickly it has spread. I have never seen an entertainment trend grow so fast and so strongly. It’s honestly an incredible movement and hard to comprehend. What’s even crazier is that so many people who love the show have never even seen it, myself included. Maybe one day we won’t have to listen to a mixtape, to enjoy the glory that is “Hamilton”
