Milwaukee Introduces Line of Adjustable Wrenches

Tool Box Buzz Tool Box Buzz: In June of 2015 we had the opportunity to visit Milwaukee Tool to see all of new and upcoming releases for the year. Hand tools is an area that continues to see huge strides in development. Milwaukee Tool’s recipe for success consists of two things, ask contractors about their frustrations with tools, implement solutions that solve those problems. Hand tools is no different.

I think I know what Drew’s next purchase is going to be. If Milwaukee has improved the design of the adjustable wrench, it could be a game changer. Though I doubt it will. I’m not going to go out and buy one of the wrenches – I already have an adjustable wrench. If I didn’t have one, I might consider buying one of these new Milwaukee wrenches. Although I have faith in Milwaukee tools and think they make a good product, I’m skeptical of how much of an improvement they could have made on the adjustable wrench. I understand the stage lighting technicians interest in an adjustable wrench. In order to hang and focus a light, you have to manipulate three different sized bolts quickly. Having three different sized wrenches could be bulky and take more time to change out wrenches. Otherwise, for hardware and especially for trades like plumbing where fitting sizes should be standard, the best tool to have is probably the right sized wrench over an adjustable wrench.

I have to say, one of the most frustrating things that happen with adjustable wrenches is that they will listen as you use them. Or even just wave them around. I tend to use my adjustable wrench the most during lighting calls and for the most part I want them to stay in one position. But so often they shift and move, making it frustrating when I have to stop and readjust. I am interested to see how well the increase in threads and tight tolerances will hold up to daily use. With too many threads or too stiff of a turn, it could make this new wrench just as annoying because twisting the screw to make it go from really small to all the way open and back can already take a while, but with more threads it will take longer. But as long as the back off issue is fixed, I don't see this as a huge deal breaker, though the bigger the wrench the longer the scrolling time will be.
