Backstage: Tina Fey is trying to make “fetch” happen on Broadway.
Fey appeared on Bravo’s “Watch What Happens Live” last night and teased that a Broadway adaptation of “Mean Girls” is in the works.
“We haven’t finished it yet, but it’s close,” Fey told host Andy Cohen.

Who couldn't be excited for this project? Mean Girls is such a hiliarious story, heightened enough that it would easily transition onto a musical stage. I worry that some of the classic images won't be translated, like a car, or mansion but I am eager to hear the finished product. I hope that it is not similar to Legally Blonde, but I can't help but think that the blonde hair and pink mini skirts will allude to the show on stage.
I cannot wait to hear Tina Fey's work live. I am hopeful that some of her Saturday Night Live writing will show through because it is live. Her timing comedic timing never fails to impress.
I am also excited for the design team. In the article it says she is writing the music "traditional" Broadway. I wonder if the design will be approached the same way, or will it be more realistic with the modern technologies that have come onto the market after the premier.
I'm sad that none of the original cast will be invited back, especially Lindsay Lohan... but I am glad to hear that others that have not had as big of a career yet on Broadway will be given the chance to show off their comedic skills.
Overall, it should make up to be an exciting production that young audiences will run to see.
