How amazing!! I will never be satisfied just listening to this video. How could anyone say no to this?! Hamilton is the musical of our generation, no doubt. Everyone I know enjoys the musical genius that is this show, but more than that it tells a message of huge importance. As I'm sure everyone knows the musical tells the biography of Alexander Hamilton, an immigrant who rose in political power helping to write the Federalist papers, and establish a national bank. This story also translates and ascends over everyone in America. It tells the story of one of the first American dreams. It explores ideas of diversity and power. Trust and loyalty. Lin Manuel Miranda is remarkable. President Obama, my man, is one who embraces all the differences in people and our country. It only makes sense that he and this musical interact. I love that our President embraces the arts, specifically live theatre, as I feel that what we do embraces so much from everyones backgrounds. Music brings people together. I only wish that I could have been in the room where it happened.
I love how the development of Hamilton has truly come full circle. The last time Lin Manuel Miranda performed a song from Hamilton at the White House, he was performing "Alexander Hamilton" by himself, with no idea how enormous his show would become in just a few years. I remember feeling the same way when President Obama went to see Hamilton on Broadway. I am so glad that this is the song they chose to perform at the White House, since it is so incredibly inspirational and represents what this nation was founded upon. This song also showcases all of the main male cast members, instead of just one or two. As the title of the article states, this is one of the most inspiring songs from the show, and it is great that they performed this song. I also love watching Barack and Michelle gently bobbing their heads along with the music.
I think it was crazy that Hamilton got to perform at The White House. I really love that the Obamas are so into Hamilton and they care enough to invite the whole cast to perform for students. They feel that Hamilton is a great way to teach kids about history so they will enjoy it and retain the information better. I think Hamilton is a great learning method and I definitely learned a lot more about history by listening to the album and seeing the show. Hamilton is a very important show on many levels. It is teaching people about American history in a fun way. It is combining the hip-hop world with the theatre world. It is bringing many different kinds of people together with a common interest. I think Hamilton is one changing the world for the better and I hope there are more musicals like this in the future. It is very important that the Obamas are bringing in different kinds of art into the White House to share with the country.
These videos of Hamilton performances always get to me somehow; whether it’s from this blog, or from a friend on Facebook, or from my roommate sending me a link. I think it’s very telling how revolutionary Hamilton really is, from all the popular press the show and Lin- Manuel Miranda are receiving, but in particular the public appearances in the White House/ with the president. It would have been much harder to believe years ago before Obama was president that there would be a viral video of a group of men of color performing at the white house a rap song from a musical that tells a race- blind version of the founding fathers story. Besides the obvious politically- themed connections between the show and our government, I think it’s very telling of the progress we are making that not only is Hamilton incredibly successful in popular culture, but also that even the President, someone we look up to in the hopes that our country will be peaceful and accepting and helpful, is interacting directly with the people who made this kind of story telling possible in the public eye. This video, along with the super impressive clip of Lin- Manuel Miranda freestyle rapping to Obama’s government- related buzzwords, show a lot of potential in the power of art to influence the world.
I will never refuse to comment on a Hamilton article! Ever since the first performance at the White House from Lin- Manuel Miranda where he sang Alexander Hamilton as preview for THE BEST SHOW in a long time, I have been so into the show. The most recent White house performance was just incredible. Lin's free styling always gets to me and the fact that he is able to perform his songs next to the leader of the free world, must be a dream for him. Not only does it mean that the President of the united states is a Hamilton Musical fan, but that The president feels this show and its music need to be presented to the world. I am so proud of the Hamilton Brand and I am so happy that Hamilton is opening new doors in theatre and creating new paths in the entertainment industry. It really goes to show how much power art and theatre have on everyone. Even the most powerful people in the world.
