Seeing products like these make me think about not only the future of fashion, but more specifically about how our decade will be categorized aesthetically. Will these google-generated designs become the norm for the next five to ten years just like color blocking was for the 90's or psychedelic patterns for the 70's?I think these designs are an interesting idea because they hold significance to the creator, but to everyone else they just seem like a cool pattern. It makes me wonder if this will get off the ground once people realize that, while the idea that those multicolored patches represent a specific google image search, they're pretty much meaningless to anyone else who looks at them. Then again, it does produce an interesting and unique look that nothing else can really duplicate. While I don't personally see the appeal of this kind of clothing, I can see it blending in with the neo-grunge, post-hipster clothing style that's gaining popularity. What I think is more interesting about these developments is the type of technology used to create these clothes and if these methods have other applications.
I am no costume designer but some of the designs in this article are truly amazing. I have seen printed fabric in the past, but having something that is easily accessible and also the software to make your designs come to life is even better. I go to school with some pretty intense costume designers and I could see some of them having a field day with this. I have started to see that contemporary look in clothes these days and this process would only make that easier. During my orientation week I had the opportunity to use a screening process to put designs on fabric, although this is a very different process it makes me think of the world of possibilities that I can put on a piece of clothing. I’m not saying that this style will grab the attention of everyone but anyone that wants to make a statement walking the street should defiantly jump on this.
