This article just makes me so excited to have a career in sound. Riley's story of how he fell in love with mixing live sound just makes me that more excited to jump into the world of audio. It's so great to see how different people fall into the world of sound. Because really, most sound designers, engineers, technicians, they "fall" into it. They try out the board once, it works out, they're asked to do it again and a patterns emerges and before you know it, they fall in love with the board. This is a passion I commend and I can relate to. Not even discovering the technical world of sound before high school, I still knew I loved audio and hearing was/is my favorite sense. Once I got a tangible idea what I wanted to do with my life, it just became clearer and clearer what aspect of sound I loved and it was live sound. Being in the moment, being reminded why you love it so much while you listen to loudspeakers, control the faders, and just feel the energy of sound.
