Is 'Trapped' headed for Broadway?

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: Is Broadway ready for Twan, Sylvester, Pimp Lucius and "the package"? R. Kelly thinks so -- and says he's working to bring the wacky characters and plotlines in his even wackier "Trapped in the Closet" series to the Great White Way.

This is the greatest thing to ever happen to musical theater. I have watched all of "Trapped in the Closet" and am a firm believer in the pure cult classic gold that is hidden beneath the layers of awful in it. While the series is pretty bad (in a thoroughly enjoyable way), I do think that this musical would bring a new crowd of faces to the theater. Also I think a lot of people would go just to see how bad it ended up being. So bravo R. Kelly I support your brave leap from TV opera to musical theater.

I did not know how to respond to this at first. My initial thought was of the South Park episode making fun of Trapped in the Closet and Scientology. Then, thinking into it, the different stories that go on as he is trapped in the closet could make for a hysterical show. He could be in a closet on one side of the stage and then all these stories could be unraveling right in front of him. As long as the show was kept short and simple, I could see it being successful. I would defiantly go see this. At the same time I have a hard time picturing this on a Broadway stage. Maybe it would be better at a Roundabout stage.

I really have no clue what this is, but if its an consolation I'm thoroughly intrigued and now want to go and see what "trapped in the Closet" is. If this is anything like the comedy musical " the book of Mormon" then this is going to be great. I've always have preferred comedies to drama's to a highly comedic musical would be great. The main worry is the show the type of comedy that would appeal to the masses or would it have a very small audience pool. If the later is the case then it might be problematic when it came to fill in a broadway theater.

ok. this is ridiculous. Trapped in closet is hilarious but does it really belong on stage? my answer maybe. it would have to be very carefully done and it would have to be shorter than 85 chapters of 4-8 minute music videos. But it could be a hit. Especially for the younger crowd. I just sitting in 33 last year watching the entire series and i could not stop laughing. maybe it can happen again on stage.

I heard about this a couple weeks ago and was wondering how come an article wasn't up on here about it yet. I must admit that when I first heard about this I was most disturbed and my immediate reaction was, "but why?" However now all I'm thinking is WHY NOT! Once it is well written, produced, casted, acted, directed and designed well, it could be quite entertaining. Obviously it won't have the same format as the music videos because they were basically just 5-10 minutes of pure roundabout, cliffhanger journeys. The key to making this even work would be to take some of what made it sooo popular and then take some of what makes other musicals marketable, entertaining and long-lasting. Utilizing the right marketing and PR to make this relevant to many different audiences will be the biggest challenge due to the fact that the large audience base that Trapped in a Closet previously had didn't have to pay for a ticket to go to the theatre. Therefore unless this will be very accessible to their typical audience, They will have a challenge at the box office in the long run.
